Why This Class
Joseph Addison once said, “Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body.” The ability to read, write, and think critically is intrinsic to being a successful member of modern society. Yet too much of school curriculum is devoted to rote memorization or basic composition as opposed to reading for nuance or writing analytically. The Critical Reading and Writing series aims to correct this by providing a systematic and involved program of studies that fosters a students’ reading ability, analytical thinking, composition skills, and cultural fluency.
Unlike programs that elect to separate reading and writing, our teachers and curriculum designers understand that these two skills are learned in tandem and unable to be separated. Students progress through a series of levels, broken into multiple stages, that teach them the foundational skills required to be a successful reader and writer.
