Why This Class
Expand your writing knowledge and skills through focused competition preparation. We frequently hear students say “When will I use this in real life?” or “How does this apply to me?” Students are too often expected to write essays that follow a predictable formula and do not have the chance to express their thoughts meaningfully. Our writing competition class challenges students to find meaningful topics within set guidelines and to write toward a tangible goal that will lead to future success. For our June writing competition bootcamp, students will research topics related to food and write their own creative nonfiction entries about a wide range of topics such as their personal experiences with family meals, the carbon cost of food production, or even the sugar in school lunches.
