U.S. Colleges Olympic Success: A Look at Paris 2024 Medal Wins

The 2024 Paris Olympics have come to a close, and the U.S. team has once again demonstrated its athletic prowess, ranking first with a total of 126 medals—40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze. A significant portion of this success can be attributed to the contributions of NCAA schools, which sent over 1,000 former, current, and incoming student-athletes to represent more than 100 different countries. These athletes brought back an impressive 330 medals for 26 countries, showcasing the critical role that U.S. colleges play on the global sports stage.

5. Harvard University

Harvard University rounds out the top-performing schools with 13 medals—eight gold, one silver, and four bronze. This year’s Olympics marked a significant improvement for Harvard, as the school broke its 128-year Olympic record. Harvard athletes competed in a variety of sports, with particularly strong showings in fencing and track and field. The school’s performance in Paris was a remarkable step up from previous Olympics, where its athletes had won only a handful of medals.
