What Students Learn in SAT Vocabulary Camp

Students study 300 core and advanced SAT words at a pace of 30 words per week. Word lists are organized around the topics and passage types that appear on the Digital SAT:

  • Argument and evidence
  • Research and science
  • Literature
  • Society and economics
  • Tone
  • Logical relationships

Context mysteries, word games, discussions, and cumulative review keep learning engaging and help new words stick.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the camp, students will be able to:

  • Interpret unfamiliar words using context clues and word parts
  • Distinguish nuances in meaning and tone
  • Explain why an author chose a precise word
  • Recognize all 300 words in context, with deeper understanding and use of 10–15 priority words each week

Practice and Progress Tracking

Plan for 40–50 minutes of SAT vocabulary preparation and review each week, spread across short sessions. Students complete a midpoint check and a final check, review activities, and keep a personal error log to track words that need more work. Continued review supports long-term retention.

Pair Vocabulary with SAT Grammar to Maximize Your SAT Prep

Vocabulary gaps can obscure a passage's meaning, while uncertain grammar knowledge makes answer choices hard to judge. That's why we recommend taking SAT Vocabulary Builder Camp together with our SAT Grammar Builder Camp to maximize your SAT preparation. The grammar class meets on Tuesdays, so the two courses fit together in the same week. Together, they strengthen both skills for the Reading and Writing section, with benefits for academic reading and writing well beyond the SAT. Students taking both classes should plan for 40–50 minutes of weekly vocabulary practice and 30–45 minutes of weekly grammar practice.
