Coffee Hour | How to Launch a Social Impact Project
Friday, October 23 | 6:00 – 7:00 PM | Cupertino
From identifying a real need to planning, launching, and growing a project.
What it takes to find the right idea, get started, and build something meaningful
Many students want to make a difference but do not know where to begin. A strong social impact project does not start with a polished organization or an ambitious mission statement. It starts with a real need, a willingness to listen, and an idea that a student can actually put into action.
In this Coffee Hour, Jun Liu, Founder of 7EDU, will share examples from students’ social impact projects over the past summer and discuss the many ways students can turn their interests and skills into meaningful, lasting action.
What We’ll Discuss
- What makes a social impact project meaningful: How it differs from traditional volunteering, a one-time service event, or an activity created simply for college applications.
- Finding a project that fits: Possibilities across STEM, health, business, the humanities, the arts, and environmental work, and how to match a project to a student’s own interests and strengths.
- Getting started without an established network: How to identify a real need, approach potential community partners, and choose a realistic place to begin.
- Turning an idea into a working project: Research, early testing, feedback, execution, and the adjustments that often make a project stronger.
- What colleges notice: How meaningful projects can demonstrate initiative, empathy, ownership, problem-solving, and sustained commitment.
- Lessons from real student projects: How students used the summer to build momentum, turn personal interests into action, and develop projects they could continue during the school year.
Come with questions. Jun will leave time for open discussion so families can talk through their own student’s ideas and next steps.
